Children’s bonds / 子供たちの絆

I attended the UNICEF/RfP Global Partnership Workshop held at Bangkok on 10th and 11th in July.  In the 11th morning, a staff member in charge of UNICEF fundraising in Rissho Kosei-kai, which is one of the core members of RfP International and Asia, made a 8-minute presentation on Japanese Children’s fundraising activities for the children in need in the world through UNICEF as well as for “Donate a Meal”campaign.

7月10日、11日、私はバンコクで開催されたユニセフ-RfPのグローバル・パートナーシップのワークショップに参加しました。11日の朝、RfP 国際とRfPアジアの中核メンバーである立正佼成会のユニセフ担当スタッフが日本の子供たちによる世界で支援を必要としている子供たちへのユニセフ募金活動と一食を捧げる運動について、8分間の発表を行いました。

Photos were shown that the kindergarten kids and lower grade elementary school students were appealing to the people passing by, saying “We are now raising fund for UNICEF to help the world’s disadvantaged children.” The UNICEF representatives and religious leaders gathered from all over the world were seeing the pictures and listening to the messages by those children while taking their breaths. Some local churches in one diocese of Rissho Kosei-kai conducted this UNICEF fundraising activity on the street every weekend for the whole last year and achieved the target of 10 million yen (ca. the US $100,000).

幼稚園並びに小学生の一、二年生たちが街頭で「世界の恵まれない子供たちのために、ユニセフ募金をお願いしまーす！」と道行く人たちに呼びかけている姿も写真で紹介されました。世界中から集まったユニセフの担当者たちと宗教指導者たちは息を飲んで写真に見入り、子供たちのメッセージを聞いていました。ある地方の複数の立正佼成会の教会ではこのユニセフ街頭募金活動を昨年、一年間、毎週末続け、目標の1000万円を達成したそうです。

Also, she shared the “Donate a meal” campaign in which people donate money to those who are suffering from hunger all over the world by skipping food or snacks a few times a month, with sincere prayer for their happiness. Even Children are skipping snacks.

それに加えて毎月数回食事やおやつを抜いてそのお金を世界中で空腹で苦しんでいる人々に布施をし、祈るという「一食を捧げる運動」についても説明をしました。子供たちもおやつを抜いているのです。

The audience was deeply moved and embraced by happy surprise. They faced the very fact that all assistance through UNICEF for children in need in the world have been and are conducted not by the extra money but by the money collected through “Donate a meal” activities as well as through the street fundraising by the people of goodwill including children.

会場全体が驚きと感動に包まれました。余分なお金ではなく、食事を捧げる運動と、子供たちをも含めた善意の人々による街頭募金によって集められたお金によって、ユニセフを通した世界の子供たちへの支援が行われている事実を知ったからです。

That morning became truly precious when I felt the importance of assistance with a love-filled message and sweat infiltrated from small children to small children, as well as of the bond among the same human beings which goes beyond the superficial relationship between givers and receivers.

小さな子供たちから小さな子供たちへの愛のこもったメッセージと汗のしみこんだ支援、支援する側と支援される側という表面的な関係を乗り越えた同じ人間としての絆、その大切さを心から実感した貴重な朝となりました。

We all who could be there to witness that moment vowed together to convey to the children who stand on the street for fundraising, the message that “Your voice and your sweat is changing the world!” I am thoroughly convinced that the bond among children will become a driving force of leading our world toward the better direction.

「君の叫び、君の汗は世界を確実に変えつつある」このことを募金に立っている子供たちに伝えていく、とその場にいることができた私たち参加者は誓い合いました。子供たち同士の絆はきっと世界をよき方向に導いていく原動力になるに違いない、そう確信しています。
