Congratulatory Remarks for March 1st Centenary ceremony by Secretary General / 3.1運動100周年記念式典 事務総

Your Eminences, Excellencies, distinguished leaders and guests from all quarters, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.

ご参集の宗教指導者、各界指導者、ご来賓の皆さま、おはようございます。

On behalf of Religions for Peace Asia, I would like to express my deep respect to the Korea Conference of Religions for Peace (KCRP) for hosting an International Conference – Commemorating the Centennial Anniversary of the March 1st Movement.

アジア宗教者平和会議を代表して、3月1日運動100周年記念国際会議の主催者である韓国宗教者平和会議に対し、心からの敬意を評します。

I am honored to be invited to this important, historical seminar with the title of “Religion and Peace for Another 100 years.”

「これからの100年のための宗教と平和」のテーマで開催される重要で歴史的な会議に招待されましたことを大変名誉に思います。

First and most importantly, I, as a Japanese, personally want to express my apology from the bottom of my heart to all Koreans in the past, present and future generations, for the long-year Japanese colonial rule which hurt and victimized so many people in your country in the modern history.

近代史において、日本の長年にわたる植民地統治の結果、貴国の多くの国民を傷つけ、犠牲にしました。まずもって、過去、現在、未来世代にわたるすべての韓国の皆さまに対し、一人の日本人として、心からのお詫びを申し上げます。

The colonial rule encompasses human right violation, oppression, discrimination, and the denial of the equal dignity of all forms of life, I believe. It is based on, and generates the discrimination of life.

植民地支配は人権侵害、抑圧、差別、そして何よりもあらゆる命の平等な尊厳性を否定するものであると考えます。生命の差別化に基づくものであり、差別化を生み出すものであります。

As the Secretary General of Asian Religions for Peace, I am confident that we should learn the value and role of the non-violent movement against all sorts of oppression, discrimination, violation, and the denial of the fundamental human right, needless to say, the equal dignity of all human beings.

アジア宗教者平和会議の事務総長として、言うまでもなく、すべての人間の平等なる尊厳性という最も基本的な人権の否定、あらゆる種類の抑圧、差別、暴力に対する非暴力運動の価値と役割を学ぶべきであると確信します。

The March 1st Movement demonstrated and verified the real value and power of the non-violent movement, and thus the movement became a historical and symbolic force of the liberation.

3月1日運動は非暴力運動の真の価値と力を実証しました。結果としてこの運動は解放の歴史的かつ象徴的な力となったのです。

Furthermore, I deeply respect the role model and achievement of the March 1st Movement in fostering the inter-religious dialogue towards harmony and unity of all peoples.

更に、すべての人々の調和と一致に向けての宗教間対話を育む上で、3月1日運動が果たした模範的役割と成果に深く敬意を表するものであります。

The spirit of the March 1st Movement transcends the differences in religions and doctrines and provides the spiritual foundation for harmony and unity in two Koreas and world peace.

本運動の精神は、宗教並びに教義の相違を乗り越え、二つの朝鮮の調和と一致、そして世界平和のための精神的な基盤を提供するものです。

I do believe we people of religions can make religions and faiths tools for peaceful coexistence, not for division and conflict between peoples and countries, through our efforts for promoting interreligious dialogue and cooperation with the motto of “different faiths, common action.”

「異なる信仰、共通の行動」をモットーに宗教間対話と協力を推進する努力を通して、私たち宗教者は宗教を人々や国家の分断や対立ではなく、平和的共存のための道具とすることができると信じています。

Thank you very much, all the leaders and members of KCRP for providing the world with this very crucial and vital opportunity of learning the message of God and Buddha to humanity, namely, realizing the harmonious coexistence of all peoples in Asia and world by non-violent and compassionate action of dialogue.

非暴力と慈愛あふれる対話行動によってアジアと世界のすべての人々の調和的人類への共存を実現するという神仏のメッセージを学ぶ大変貴重かつ重要な機会を世界に与えてくださった韓国宗教者平和会議の指導者と皆さまに心から御礼申し上げます。

The March 1st Movement is, and will truly be a milestone for the humankind to pursue everlasting human security, based on the mutual love, compassion, and the genuine respect of equal dignity of all human beings.

3月1日運動は、相互愛、、慈悲、そしてすべての人間の平等な尊厳性の真の尊重に基づき、人類が人間の永遠の安全を追求していくための真の道しるべであり、これからもそうあり続けるでしょう。

Let us pray for the success of this important commemorative conference.

この記念大会の成功を共に祈りましょう。 Thank you very much for your patience and listening to me.
