So many distinctions exist in the world — the distinction between nations, ethnicities, languages, religions, cultures, ideologies and so forth. According to the latest archeological discoveries and studies, the species of homo sapience appeared about 300,000 years ago in some areas of the African continent. Since then we homo sapience have developed and dominated on the globe up to 7.6 billion population.
At the original moment of appearance, we humankind had only one mother, scientifically named “Mitochondrial Eve.” For over 300,000 years of history, we have created lots of distinctions mentioned above. We almost forgot the original oneness, the concept of one family as homo sapience species.
Expressions such as races, nationalities, tribes and ethnicity, Chinese and Hindu, Christianity and Islam, conservative and liberal, etc. have no limit. These distinctions divide people in so many ways, which tend to highlight difference rather than commonness.
Here exists the critical mission of dialogue and interaction aiming for approval of difference which could eventually lead to respecting diversity in ourselves and the world. In this context, dialogue and interaction play a crucial role in erasing drawn lines which sustain seemingly everlasting distinctions mentioned already. We could call our inter-religious dialogue and interaction as well as other forms of concrete co-action as “Eraser Movement.”
For the coexistent societies and world, we humankind need to transcend superficial distinctions and awaken ourselves to the commonness and recognize our differences as rich diversities. Distinction easily creates “Binary Confrontation.” This binary confrontation creates various forms of conflict and confrontation, manifested in direct, structural and cultural violence pointed out in my previous message.
In this sense, the superficial and unnecessary distinction might be one of the root causes of so many confrontations dominant in the present world.
Religions for Peace both International and Asia could be one of the most powerful eraser movements at this critical moment we humankind are living. We religious people gathering at ACRP will continue our humble effort to erase the lines which make these distinctions.
世界にはたくさんの区別が存在しています。国、民族、言語、宗教、文化、イデオロギーなどです。最新の考古学的知見に依れば、私たち現人類であるホモ・サピエンスは約30万年前にアフリカ大陸全般に発生したと言われています。以来、ホモ・サピエンスは76億人まで増加し、地球を凌駕しています。
人類発生の瞬間、私たちは学名「ミトコンドリア・イブ」と呼ばれる一人の母親から誕生しました。そしてこの30万年間で私たち自身が多くの区別をつくりあげてきたのです。結果、ホモ・サピエンスという同一種に属する本来的には家族の存在であることをほとんど忘れてしまっているのです。
人種、国籍、部族、民族、中国語とかヒンドゥー語、キリスト教とかイスラーム、保守派とか進歩派など、区別を表す表現は限りがありません。これらの区別は実に多くの方法で人々を分断し、共通性よりも相違点に光を当てる傾向があるのです。
ここに私たち自身そして世界の多様性の尊重につながる第一歩としての差異の承認を目指す対話と交流の重要な使命が存在します。この意味において、対話と交流は永久的に存在し続けるようにさえ見える線引きによる多数の区別を消していく上で決定的な役割を果たすのです。
共生社会と世界の構築のため、私たち人類は表面的な相違を乗り越えて共通性に目覚め、差異を豊かな多様性として認識していく必要があります。区別は容易に「二項対立」を生み出します。二項対立は前メッセージでも述べましたように、直接的暴力、構造的暴力、そして文化的暴力に表されるさまざまな形の対立や紛争を産み出すのです。
この意味において、表面的かつ不必要な区別は現代の世界に蔓延する多くの対立の根源的な要因になっていると言えます。
世界宗教者平和会議とアジア宗教者平和会議は、私たち人類が生きる現在の危機的状況下において、もっともパワフルな区別の線引きを消す「消しゴム」運動の一つであるといってよいでしょう。ACRPに集う私たちはこれらの線引きを消すための努力をこれからも謙虚に続けてまいりたいと思います。
