Indiscriminative nature of life / 命の無差別性

There are many forms of life on earth. Each entity has its unique nature. The different nature causes the distinction among many kinds of life. Even if we look at only humankind, such a distinction exists among race, ethnicity, nationality, etc.

この地上にはさまざまな形の命が存在します。それぞれの命が独自性を持っています。そしてその異質性がざまざまな命を区別化する要因になっています。人間世界だけを見ても、そうした区別は人種、民族、国籍の違いなどとして存在しているのです。

These superficial differences, unfortunately, create discrimination among many forms of life. For example, we are superior to them, or they are inferior to us, etc. これらの表面的な相違は残念ながらざまざまな命の間の差別を生み出しています。例えば我々の方が彼らより優秀であるとか、逆に彼らは我々より劣っている、などです。

As we all know, discrimination creates the discrepancy in many fields, violation of human rights and so on. In the area of peace study, these issues are categorized as structural violence which causes direct violence such as war, ethnic conflict, and terrorist attack, etc.

ご承知のように、差別は多くの領域における格差や人権侵害などを生み出します。平和学の分野ではこうした問題は構造的暴力と位置づけられ、戦争、民族紛争、テロ行為などの直接的暴力を生み出す要因とみなされています。

Yes, the discriminative nature of life is the very root cause of all dichotomy-based conflicts in our present world. Therefore, it is crucial to make changes in our views on the discriminative nature of all life. The title of my blog, namely ”The equal dignity of all forms of life” could be put into “ The discriminative nature of life.”

そうです。命の差別性は、現代世界における二項対立に基づいたあらゆる対立の根本原因です。ですから、すべてのいのちを差別的に捉える私たちの見方を変える必要があるのです。このブログのタイトルである「あらゆる命の平等なる尊厳性」は「命の無差別性」に置き換えることができます。

Then, how could we make a change in our way of living based upon the philosophy from the discriminative nature of life to the indiscriminative one?

では、私たちはいかにして命の差別性から無差別性へという哲学に基づく生き方に私たち自身を変容させていくことができるのでしょうか。

In many religious and faith traditions, each entity is said to be connected to and rooted in the original and very sacred life. We may call this ultimate source of life of God or the great cosmic life etc.

多くの宗教伝統では、すべてのいのちは大本の、本来の聖なるいのちに繋がっている、根差していると説いています。私たちはこの大本の根源的いのちを神のいのち、あるいは宇宙の大生命等と呼ぶことができるかもしれません。

The indiscriminative nature of life is the critical concept for the common good of humanity, I believe. We all are equally precious and sacred beings without an exemption. Let us share this message, the message of the discriminative nature of life with as many people as possible. It is a common sacred mission of people who live on faith.

人類の共通善のためのキーワードが命の無差別性である、と私は信じます。私たちはすべて、例外なく平等に尊厳なる存在です。一人でも多くの人々と、このいのちの無差別性というメッセージを分かち合っていきましょう。それが、信仰に生きる私たちが共通に持っている聖なる使命なのです。
