SG’s congratulatory remark at the interfaith forum in Manila / マニラ宗教対話フォーラムでの事務総長挨拶

Good morning Your Eminences, Excellencies, religious leaders, and all the distinguished participants, sisters, and brothers.

ご臨席の宗教指導者、ご来賓、そして兄弟姉妹の皆さま、おはようございます。

As Secretary-General of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace, with its 22 member countries, I am so grateful to and congratulate the organizers of this significant St. Thomas Aquinas forum 2019 with the theme of ”emerging challenges in inter-religious dialogue”, jointly organized by Russel Berrie Foundation and St. Thomas University.

22ヶ国が加盟するアジア宗教者平和会議の事務総長として、ラッセル・ベリー財団とセント・トーマス大学の共催による「宗教間対話における課題」をテーマにした2019年セント・トーマス・アクイナス・フォーラムの開催に心からの感謝とお祝いを申し上げます。

My special thanks go to Ms. Angelica Berrie, President of Russel Berrie Foundation, and very Rev. Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, Rector Magnificus of the University of Santo Tomas, and other speakers and participants for their tremendous contribution to the promotion of interreligious dialogue.

We ACRP secretariat team are visiting Manila to discuss with our ACRP leaders on addressing various issues.

私たちACRP事務局はACRPフィリピンの指導者たちと様々な問題への取り組みを話し合うために、ここマニラを訪れています。

I am very proud of our Philippine chapter leaders who sincerely commit to promoting the interfaith dialogue, and implementing the concrete project such as the prevention of modern slavery, focusing on human trafficking, and Mangrove replanting, etc.

私は事務総長として、宗教間対話や人身売買に焦点を当てた現代の奴隷制度やマングローブ植樹事業などの具体的なプロジェクトに取り組んでいるACRP 女性ネットワーク並びにフィリピン委員会のリーダーたちを心から誇りに思っております。

On this significant occasion, I would like to share with you my thoughts and ideas about the value and importance of interreligious dialogue and co-action.

この素晴らしい機会に私は宗教間対話と協働の重要性並びに価値についての私の考えを述べたいと思います。

The period from the end of the 20th century through now is the era in which the conflicted relationship by the differences among religions and cultures have been emerging.

20世紀末から今に至る時代は宗教と文化の違いによる対立的な関係が表出してきた時代であると思います。

Because religion and culture often form the characteristics and peculiarity of ethnicity.

なぜなら、宗教や文化は往々にして民族の特性や特異性を形作るものであるからです。

However, religion per se appeals to the value of common living based on the building of the harmonious relationship, not contributes to the separation of humankind by distinguishing the peculiarity of ethnicity and culture. The inter-religious dialogue should be practiced with the aim of reaffirming, accepting and respecting the primary value of religion by religious people.

しかし、本来、宗教は民族や文化の特異性を区別化することによって人類を分断することに寄与するのではなく、調和的関係の構築によって共生という最も大切な価値観を訴えるものであります。宗教間対話は、宗教者が宗教の本来的価値を再確認し、受容、尊重することを目的に行われるべきものであります。

The self-relativization through dialogue with other religions is indispensable in dis-construction or prevention of the absolutization for one’s faith, into which we religious people tend to fall.

私たち宗教者が陥りやすい自己の宗教、信仰の絶対化を脱構築、あるいは防止する上で、他宗教との対話を通した自己相対化は不可欠なものとなります。

The idea of dialogue is to have talk and conversation among actors based on the sense of oneness between oneself and others. The sincere and life-risking dialogue may have the power to change the entire world.

対話は 参加者間の自己と他者の自他一体感に基づいて交わされる話し合い、語り合いです。真摯で命を賭けた対話は、世界全体を変える力を持っているかもしれないのです。

The self-relativization and objectivization is the crucial first step towards building a coexistent relationship based on mutual respect with others, regardless of whether they believe in different faiths or the same faith.

自己相対化、客体化は、同じ信仰をもっているか、異なる信仰を信じているかに拘わらず、他者との相互尊重に基づいた共生の関係構築に向けた大切な第一歩なのです。

We gather for dialogue with the wish that the importance of mutual understanding and respect penetrates each cell of people who are gathering.

私たちは相互理解と尊重が私たちの細胞の一つ一つに染み込むことを願って対話に参加しているのです。

All religions teach that we all are children of God, and Buddha, and sisters and brothers.

すべての宗教は私たちが神の子、仏の子、兄弟姉妹であると説いています。

The difference in religion, ethnicity, language, the color of skin and hair, culture, is an expression of the diversity of one original great life, not a borderline which divides humankind.

宗教、民族、言語、肌や髪の色、文化の違いは一つの大元の生命の多様性の表われであって、人類を分断する境界線ではないのです。

We get to understand each other through dialogue that the difference is for the coexistence of more abundant diversity.

私たちは、違いというものは、より豊かな多様性の共生であることを、対話を通して互いに学んでいくのです。

We people of religion and faith continue our encounter and travel for awakening to this truth.

このことに気づいていくために私たち宗教者、信仰者は、出会いと旅を続けます。

We are children of God and Buddha.

私たちは神の子、仏の子です。

In reality, the different religions are the expression of the diversification of the same message, and we who have engaged in sincere dialogue are fully aware of it.

実際、異なる宗教は同じメッセージの多様的な表現なのです。真摯な対話に従事している私たちはそのことに気づいています。

This same message can be expressed by the words of unconditional love, compassion, fraternal and sisterly love, neighborly love, the oneness between oneself and others, service, charity, sharing, and donation, etc.

このメッセージは、無条件の愛、慈悲、兄弟愛、姉妹愛、隣人愛、自己と他者との一体性、奉仕、慈善、分かち合い、布施などの表象によって表現されます。

Let us continue our dialogue and lead this world to return to the one where everyone lives together by offering unconditional, unlimited love to our sisters and brothers who are in great need.

一人一人が、この世界が、無条件、無制限の愛を必要としている兄弟、姉妹のために、共に愛を捧げ合うことのできる本来の世界に戻れるよう、対話を続けていこうではありませんか。

Lastly, I would like to share with you the belief I have been Cherishing in my life.

最後に、私が人生で宝にしてきた信念をお分けしたいと思います。

“To live my everyday life by respecting the equal dignity of all human beings gives me energy and strength to love and be compassionate to everyone in the world.”

「あらゆる人々の平等なる尊厳性を尊重しながら毎日を生きることが、世界のすべての人々を愛し、慈悲心で接するエネルギーと力を私に与えてくれる！」
