言うは易し、行うは難し。他者のために自分を捨てることは不可能に思えます。しかし、過去にも現在にも良きモデルは存在します。

One of the model is  Mother Teresa.  She genuinely devoted to the welfare and happiness of others and never compromised in the halfway.

マザーテレサが良きモデルです。彼女は純粋に他者の福祉や幸福のために心身を捧げ、決して妥協することがありませんでした。

They are the same human beings as we are. What makes us different from them? Do they have some special talent which ordinary people like us don’t have?

彼らは私たちと同じ人間です。私たちを彼らと違う人間にしているのは何でしょうか？私たち凡人がもっていない特殊な才能を持ち合わせているのでしょうか？

Mary Teresa(26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), commonly known as Mother Teresa and honored in the Roman Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary.　Her real name is Agnesa/Antigona Gongea Boiagi.

マリーテレサ（1910年8月26日ー1997年9月5日）はマザーテレサとして知られています。ローマカトリック教会より、聖テレサの聖人叙階を受けたアルバニア－インド・カトリック教会の修道女であり、宣教師です。本名は、アグネサ／アンティゴナ・ゴンジャ・ボヤジです。

She was born in Skopje (now the capital of North Macedonia), then part of the Kosovo Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire. After living in Skopje for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life.

彼女は当時のオスマン帝国コソボ州のスコピエ（現在は北マケドニアの首都）生まれです。18年間スコピエで過ごした後、アイルランドを経てインドに渡ります。そこで人生の大半を過ごしました。

In 1950, Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation that had over 4,500 nuns and was active in 133 countries in 2012.

1950年、テレサはカトリック教会の神の愛の宣教者会を設立しました。2012年時点で133か国で、4,500人の修道女が活動しています。

The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. It also runs soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, children’s and family counseling programs, as well as orphanages and schools.

宣教者会は、エイズ、ハンセン病、結核などで死にゆく人々のために「死を待つ人々の家」を開設しました。さらに、無料食堂、診療所、移動クリニック、子供と家族のカウンセリング活動、孤児院や学校などを運営しています。

Members take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, and also profess a fourth vow—to give “wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor.”　In a plain word, it is to work for people of srarving, naked, homeless, physically challenged, sick, never needed, never loved, never cared for by anyone.

メンバーは、純潔、貧困、従順の誓いを保ち、4つ目の「貧困者の中でも最も貧困な人々のために全身全霊の奉仕を捧げる」ことを誓います。具体的には「飢えた人、裸の人、家のない人、体の不自由な人、病気の人、必要とされることのないすべての人、愛されていない人、誰からも世話されない人のために働く」ことでした。

She had deep and genuine faith in God and made conrete vows as a clear direciton of her life.  “Wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor” is a key word for her living on faiths.  Her pureness, simpleness, unlimited and undonditional compassion and love made her one of the greatest saints in the modern world, I believe.

彼女は神への純粋な、そして深い信仰を持っていました。そして人生の指針となる具体的な誓いを立てていました。「貧困者の中でも最も貧困な人々のために全身全霊の奉仕を捧げる」という信仰に生きるキーワードです。彼女の純粋性、シンプルネス、無制限、無条件の慈悲と愛が彼女を現代世界の最も偉大な聖人の一人にしたのだと思います。
