True meaning of education / 教育の真の意味

What is the true meaning of education? I want to share my thoughts cultivated by my experience in life.

教育の真の意味とは何でしょうか？私の人生経験で培われた考えをお分けしたいと思います。

I think education has many vital functions and roles. What I think most valuable out of many is to help a person realize and foster the inborn bestowed ability and peculiar talent. It’s not merely to teach a person something for increasing one’s knowledge or intelligence.

教育はとても重要な機能と役割を多く持っていると思います。私がそれらの中で最も重要なことと考えるのは、教育はその人が生まれながらに授かった能力や才能に自ら気づき、育めるようにお手伝いすることだと考えます。単にその人の知識や知性を高めるために何かを教えるだけではありません。

There are so many forms of education, such as formal education, informal education, nonformal education, and family education, etc. Every kind of education plays a crucial role in developing human character and personality. To help self-realization and awareness of one’s inborn dignity, ability, or talent lays the foundation of all education, I believe.

教育には様々な形があります。フォーマルな教育、インフォーマルな教育、ノンフォーマルな教育、家庭教育などです。あらゆる教育が人間性や人格の向上にとても重要な役割を果たします。天賦の尊厳性、能力、才能を各自が自ら認識すること、自覚すること、そのことを手伝うことがすべての教育の礎であると思います。

I shall not forget the critical role of on the job education. For example, the role of secretary-general of ACRP is critical and very difficult to fulfill, as responsibility and expectation are so strong. I can never perform perfectly. I have repeated failure and success for my job and may do so in the future. Through this hard job, I am more or less forced to do my utmost. Thanks to Buddha for the arrangement. Buddha helps me realize and further develop my dormant abilities, mainly through my unsuccessful achievements or results.

仕事を通した教育の重要な役割も忘れてはなりません。たとえば、ACRP事務総長の役務は責任と期待が大きく、とても重要かつ、履行が難しいものです。到底完璧に役割を果たすことは私にはできません。これまでもそしてこれからも失敗と成功を繰り返すのだと思います。この難しい仕事を通して、私は否応なしに最善を尽くすことをある意味強いられます。仏さまのお計らいです。仏さまは、特に私が到達できなかった目標や結果を通して、私が自らの冬眠中の能力を自覚し、更に開発することを助けてくださるのです。

By experiencing lots of failures and non-achievements which I never want, I see the true meaning of education.

決して見たくない失敗や目的が叶わないことをたくさん経験することで、私は教育の真の意味を見つめているのだと思います。

I want to be a flower which blooms through the rift of the hard rock.

私も岩の裂け目がら花を咲かせる花になりたいと思います。
