Unlimited Generosity / 無制限の親切

Generosity, tenderness, compassion, loving kindness etc. are the essential values in strengthening ties between people, I believe.

I visited Karachi city in Pakistan from July 7th to 10th. The purpose of my visit was to meet with the leaders of ACRP Pakistan Chapter. It was my first official visit to the national chapter of ACRP.

We have discussed honestly the challenges we are facing now in further developing ACRP into more action-oriented movement, based upon the open-minded dialogue. How we could reach out to people in a most vulnerable situation in our present world. What kind of problems people are suffering from and how we could address these problems.

Besides these frank talks and discussion, Pakistan chapter President, vice president, Secretary General, youth leaders and other chapter leaders showed us heartfelt generosity and welcome. From the moment we arrived at the airport till we leave Karachi for Tokyo, they were with us all the time. We didn’t expect at all such a thorough reception.

They said that it’s an Islam tradition and value that Muslim welcomes all guests at their homeland as their best friends and family members.

“Unlimited generosity” is the words hit upon in my mind during my 4day stay in Pakistan. “Unlimited generosity and welcome for strangers or others” may be the keywords for an open-minded dialogue and cooperation for the common good of humanity.

Have I ever render such an unlimited generosity or welcome to strangers? No, I have done so only for my intimate friends or family members. Will I be able to do so in the future? These were the questions occurred to me. Well, the only thing I can do is to follow the excellent example demonstrated to us by our leaders in Karachi.

I thank you all for helping me awaken to the importance of “Unlimited generosity and welcome for the strangers and others”.

寛大さ、優しさ、慈悲、思いやりは、人々の間の絆を強める上で最も重要な価値であると信じます。

私は7月7日から10日にパキスタンのカラチ市を訪れました。訪問の目的は、ACRPパキスタン委員会の指導者の皆さんとお会いすることでした。ACRP国内委員会への私の最初の公式訪問となりました。

心を開いた対話に基づき、ACRPを行動する運動体に発展させるために現在直面​​している課題について私たちは率直に議論しました。いかにして私たちは現在の世界で最も脆弱な状況にいる人々に手を差し伸べることができるのでしょうか。人々は今どのような問題で苦しんでいるのでしょうか、そしてどのようにして私たちはこれらの問題に取り組んでいくことができるのでしょうか。

これらの率直な会談や議論に加えて、パキスタン委員会の会長、副会長、事務総長、青年委員会責任者、そして委員の方たちは、私たちに誠実かつ圧倒的な歓迎をしてくださいました。私たちが空港に着いた瞬間からを東京に出発するまで、片時も離れずに私たちの傍らにいてくださったのです。それこそ予想を超えた受け入れでした。

彼らは、これはイスラームの伝統と価値に基づくムスリムとしての当然の行いであると淡々と私たちに語りました。ムスリムはあらゆる訪問者を親友、家族として故郷に迎え受け入れるのです。

「無制限の親切」は、パキスタンでの4日間の滞在中に私の心の中に強く浮かび上がった言葉です。 「無制限の親切と他者の歓迎」は、人類の共通の善と心を開いた対話と協力のためのキーワードなのかもしれません。

私はこれまで見知らぬ人に対し、無制限の親切や歓迎をしてきたであろうか？ 否、私は身近な友人や家族のためだけにそうしてきたのではないか。果たして今後、私はそうすることができるのであろうか？これらが私に起こった質問でした。 私にできることは、カラチの指導者が私たちに示してくれた行動を模範にして努力することです。

「他者に対する無制限の親切と歓迎」の大切さに気付かせてくださったパキスタンの皆様に心から感謝を申し上げたいと思います。
