What we should keep in constantly changing world / 常に変化する世界の中で私たちは何を維持すべきか

Things that look seemingly unchanged are continually changing. Of course, the speed of change varies depending on situations. Some changes in a visible form, such as flowing clouds, the flow of cars and people, others change in a very long span, such as rocks and buildings and so on.

一見変わらないと見えるものも常に変化しています。もちろん変化のスピードはものによってはまちまちです。目に見える形で刻々と変化するもの、たとえば流れゆく雲、車や人の流れ、気の遠くなるような時間の中で変化するもの、たとえば岩、建物など、すべてのものが変化します。

It is not only physical existence but also political, social and world situation change regularly. Of course, our hearts and emotions change every moment.

それは物理的存在のみでなく、政治や社会状況、世界情勢も刻一刻と変わります。そして私たちの心や感情も刻一刻と変わります。

When our thoughts and wishes come true, or things progress in the desired direction, we feel joy and pleasure. On the contrary, when our dreams or desires don’t come true or go in an undesirable direction, we feel sorrow and suffering.

自分の思いや願いが叶ったり、その方向に物事が進むと私たちは喜び、楽しさを感じます。逆に思いが叶わなかったり、望まない方向に進むと私たちは悲しみや苦しみを感じます。

Let’s look at Asia. The circumstances surrounding the Korean Peninsula is changing every moment and are now under severe tension. The conditions surrounding the people of Rohingya are also in an unimaginable plight. Direct violence always accompanies to these conflicts and wars. Many are killed and are driven by a crisis of slaughter. Recurrence of hate speeches also leads to physical abuse.

アジアを見つめてみましょう。朝鮮半島をめぐる情勢は刻一刻と変化し、現在は大変な緊張下に置かれています。ロヒンギャの人々をめぐる状況も想像を絶する苦境にあります。これらの対立や紛争には直接的暴力が常に付きまといます。生命も殺戮されたり、殺戮の危機に追い込まれます。ヘイトスピーチの応酬も即物理的暴力の発生につながります。

History shows that once violent acts occur, many people are sacrificed. Refugee problems, internally displaced, starvation, diseases, poverty, etc. attack the victims. Many humanitarian organizations are implementing humanitarian emergency relief efforts for those in such emergencies.

一たび、暴力行為が発生すると多くの人々が犠牲になるのは歴史が示しています。難民化、国内避難民化、飢餓、疾病、貧困などが犠牲者に襲い掛かります。多くの人道支援に関わる団体がそうした緊急状況下におかれる人々に対して人道的な緊急支援活動を展開しています。

For example, ACRP is now engaging with Religions for Peace in raising emergency fund for people in Rohingya, and some of the funds are being used for relief activities in Bangladesh. In addition to humanitarian aid, ACRP as inter-religious dialogue and cooperation movement is now seeking how to deal with such an emergency, what to do and what can be done.

たとえばACRPもReligions for Peaceと合同で現在ロヒンギャの人々に対する緊急募金活動を展開しており、一部はバングラデシュでの救援活動に充てられています。私たちACRPは宗教対話・協力運動体としてこうした緊急状態にどのように対処すべきか、人道的な支援に加え、何をすべきで、そして何ができるか、必死に模索しています。

ACRP believes that the only thing that must be maintained without being swallowed by changes in the midst of ever-changing social conditions and the world situation is “to provide a platform of dialogue.” It is because ACRP thinks its reason for existence lies in the effort of aiming at resolving the problem through nonviolence such as dialogue is not by the military force or violence itself.

常に変化する社会情勢、世界情勢の中でこれだけは変化に飲み込まれずに維持しなければならないもの、それは「対話の場の提供である」と私たちACRPは考えています。なぜなら、武力や暴力ではなく、話し合い、対話という非暴力の手段によって問題の解決を目指すのがACRPの存在意義そのものと考えるからです。

For the reconciliation of the Korean Peninsula, The ACRP family members, the religious leaders from the north and south Korea are having desperate dialogue. We believe it is an ultimate mission of ACRP to provide a forum for dialogue in no matter how complicated and difficult the conflicts are. As for the Rohingya issue, we are looking for ways to offer a place of dialogue between Buddhists and Muslims, and we would like to continue to devote ourselves to realizing dialogue.

朝鮮半島の和解に向けてもACRP家族である北と南のKoreaの宗教指導者たちが懸命の対話を行っています。どんなに複雑かつ困難な対立でもACRPは対話の場を提供していく、それがACRPの使命だと考えます。ロヒンギャ問題に関しても現在、いかに対立する仏教徒とムスリム間に話し合いの場を提供していけるかを模索し、これからも対話の実現に向けて最大の力を注いでいきたいと考えています。
