Where shall we visit next? / 次はどこに出かけましょうか？

As a member of Religions for Peace delegation, I visited Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Makassar of Indonesia from 23rd till 29th November. The purpose of the visit was to meet with political, religious and youth leaders to learn and advance a dialogue for coexistence among peoples of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, which has long years been promoted by our sisters and brothers of religious leaders.

私はRfP代表団の一員として11月23日から29日までインドネシアのジャカルタ、ジョグジャカルタそしてマカッサルを訪れました。目的はインドネシアの宗教指導者の兄弟姉妹たちによって長年に亘り推進されてきた異なる民族、宗教、文化的背景を持った人々の間の共生のための対話を学び、さらに前進させるためです。それぞれの訪問場所で政治、宗教、青年のリーダーたちとお会いし対話を持ちました。

We met with Vice President of Indonesia, Mayor of Yogyakarta, ACRP moderator and other religious leaders and youth leaders in those places. They are leaders of Islam, Catholic, Protestant, Hindu, Buddhism, and indigenous religions.

私たちは副大統領、ジョグジャカルタ市長、ACRP実務議長、そのほか各地の宗教指導者や青年リーダーたちとお会いしました。イスラーム、カトリック、プロテスタント、ヒンドゥー、仏教、先住民宗教の指導者たちです。

Indonesia, consisting of over 13,000 islands, is a multi-ethnic country with about 300 ethnic groups and over 500 languages, and harmony is the country’s most important theme. In this national context, inter-religious dialogue and cooperation play a very important role.

１万３千以上の島々からなるインドネシアは、約３００の民族、５００を超える言語が存在する多民族国家であり、調和が国の最重要課題となっており、その中で諸宗教間対話・協力活動は大きな役割を果たしているのです。

In this visit, each leader spoke enthusiastically about how important the dialogue for multi-ethnic coexistence is. We had a valuable opportunity to witness the dialogue practices by the leaders. Also, my heart was shaken by the efficient reports on the Rohingya problem from Islamic groups working on it based on fraternity love.

今回の訪問ではそれぞれのリーダーたちが多民族共生のための対話がいかに重要であるかを熱く語り、対話実践の現場を目の当たりにする貴重な機会を頂くことができました。また、ロヒンギャ問題への取組を行っているイスラーム団体からの兄弟愛・姉妹愛に基づいた実践報告には心を揺さぶられました。

Either confrontation or coexistence? We, humans, are under intense pressure for this crucial choice. Of course, there would be no one wishing conflict over coexistence. Even though language, culture, religion, and ethnicity are different, we are originally the same Homo sapiens species. The fundamental commonality exists in the fact that we all are the same human beings.

対立か共生か、人類は大きな選択を迫られています。もちろん、共生よりも対立を望む人はいないでしょう。言葉、文化、宗教、民族が違っていても、もとをただせば私たちは同じホモサピエンスという人類です。おおもとの共通性は同じ人間であるという事実に存在します。

We shall return to its original, become aware of our root, isn’t it the original value and objective of the dialogue? I felt if from the bottom of my heart by meeting with Indonesian leaders who seriously practice true dialogue.

その本来に立ち返る、根源を自覚する、それが対話の本来の価値、そして目的なのではないでしょうか。真の対話を本気で実践しているインドネシアのリーダーたちに出会い、そのことを実感しました。

When we go out, we meet various people. There is always new learning. This applies everywhere. We go out in the area we live, meet strangers and feel each other an inter-connectedness. I want to continue my challenge for reaching out people with courage. Well, where shall we go out next?

とにかく、出かけていくとさまざまな人に出会います。そこでは必ず新たな学びが発生します。足元も同じです。住んでいる地域で出かけていく、そして見知らぬ人と出会い、つながりを感じていく。勇気を持ってチャレンジを続けていきたいと思います。さて次はどこに出かけましょうか？
