再生の持つ価値 / Value of renewal

最新科学を象徴する言葉の一つに「再生」が挙げられるのではないでしょうか？

Can the word of “renewal” or “regeneracy” be said one of the symbolized words of the edge science?

例えば、再生可能エネルギー、再生医療、再生サイクルなどです。人でも物でも命を可能な限り再生し続けることによる技術と言って良いでしょう。

For example, the words include renewable energy, regenerative medicine, or recycle and so on. We can say it is a technology to continue regenerating lives of human beings and other beings as long as possible.

再生医療の本質は薬で病気や損傷を直すのではなく、人間の体の中にある幹細胞によって損傷したり、破壊された細胞を再生させることにあるのだと言います。脊髄損傷に関わる特集番組をしていたのですが本当に驚きました。

I have learned that the essence of regenerative medicine is not to cure the disease or insults, but to regenerate the insulted or distracted cells by stem cells which exist in each human body. I learned it astonishingly by watching the featured TV program on cord injury.

壊れた細胞を自身の幹細胞と血液で修復するというものです。医学の進歩には本当に驚きます。

It is a medical technology that reproduces the distracted cells by one’s own stem cells and blood.

エネルギーの世界でも、再生可能エネルギーの進化には目を見張るものがあります。枯渇性資源のみでなく、太陽光、風力、水力、潮力、地熱などの自然が再生する資源を活用する自然と動植物に優しい技術です。

In the field of energy, outstanding development has been made on renewable energy. It is a pro-nature, and pro-plants / animals technology which utilizes not only the exhaustible resources but also the nature reproducing resources such as sunlight, wind power, water power and thermopower, etc.

リサイクルと呼ばれる物質の再生循環活用技術もますます進化しています。再生紙などはその走りの部類でしょう。象徴的なものはこれまで一度生産されると自然に還元しないビニールやプラスチックなどを細かく裁断してセメントなどと混ぜることにより、強度を保ちながら水はけのよい高質な舗装道路ができ、今や高い値段で売り買いされるようになりました。厄介もののごみが資源になり、再生活用されるのです。

The regenerating cycle technology called recycle has also been showing rapid development. Recycled paper is one of the pioneers in this field. A symbolic success story is that the vinyl and plastics which cannot be returned to nature once they were produced are now begun to be in the business of buying and selling with high prices for the materials of the high-quality paved road by mixing it with cement after cutting up to small pieces. The troublesome wastes have now become useful resources and reutilized.

換言すれば「再生」は「放棄」や「消費」の対局概念でもあるのです。大量消費が美徳の時代から少量消費・大量再生が美徳の時代へと変容しつつあるのではないでしょうか。

In other words, “regeneracy” is the opposite value of “abandonment” or “consumption”. Is it now shifting from the times of “mass consumption is virtuous” to the times of “little consumption and mass regeneracy are of high value”, isn’t it?

再生には地球の将来、人類の未来を左右する大きな力、価値が存在する、そんなことを再生医療の特集を見てふと感じました。

I felt by watching the featured program that regeneration has such significant power and value to influence the future of humankind and the world.

個人的にはエネルギー問題も研究しているのですが、再生エネルギーも将来世代にとっては欠かせないものになってくるであろうと考えます。

As I have been researching the energy issue, I think the theme of renewable energy will be indispensable for the coming generations.

時代のキーワード、それが「再生」である、というのが私の思いです。平和に関しても、平和の構築、というよりも本来存在するはずの平和の再生、と考えることにより、実は平和はより取り組みやすい課題に変容していくのではないか、と思うのです。

I believe that “renewal” is a keyword of the next era. I think peace will be transformed to be an easier issue to tackle by recognizing peace not in the context of peace-building but in the context of the renewal of peace originally inherent in the world.

「再生」の価値を を探求しながら生きていこうとます。

I will try to live my life in the pursuit of the value of regeneracy.
