徹底した生き方 / A thorough way of living

何事にも徹底した生き方をする人は、目標を達成したり、ゴールに到達する可能性が非常に高いと思います。ある意味で、妥協をしない一途な生き方です。

The possibility of realizing purpose or achieving a goal seems very high for those who live through life. In one sense, it’s a way of living which is single-minded and never compromised.

そうした資質は天賦のものだけではなく、生まれ育った環境や本人の志しによって身につくものだと思うのです。その志しは本人が受けた様々な形の教育によって形成されるのではないでしょうか。

Not only an inborn nature but also the living environment as well as one’s own will foster a human quality. Various forms of education one have received in life might cultivate such a will.

4月4日から9日までミャンマーの首都、ネピトーで開かれたミャンマー宗教者平和会議主催の「和解と平和アドバイザリーフォーラム」に参加しました。今回は世界宗教者平和会議共同議長の庭野光祥師のアテンドとして参加したのですが、大きな気づきがありました。

I attended the ”National Reconciliation and Peace Advisory Forum” organized by Religions for Peace International and Myanmar at Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar from 4th until 9th May. I participated in this forum as an attendant to Rev. Niwano and became aware of the critical point.

毎回、そうなのですが、庭野師はスピーチの準備を発表ギリギリまで続けられるのです。これまでもベストのスピーチを目指す、という師の姿勢に深い尊敬の念を抱いていましたが、今回はより深い生き様を感じました。

Rev. Niwano always prepares a draft of speech until the last moment. I always have a deep sense of respect for her attitude of making the best speech. However, I felt a clear philosophy of her way of living this time.

今回のスピーチドラフトは細かい修正も含め、20稿まで行きました。それは単にベストを目指すということではなく、最後の最後まで妥協せずに、徹底して努力する、労力を惜しまずに、与えられた役割を果たそうとする姿勢でした。この徹底した真剣な生き方の哲学が根底にあるということに気づいたのです。

For her speech at the forum, she finalized her speech in the 20th draft after minor changes. It was not merely an intention to make the best speech but to fulfill her role by not sparing any labor, making a thorough effort without compromising until the very last moment. I became fully aware of the philosophy of serious living in her life.

スピーチのみでなく、日常、そして世界レベルでの仕事への取り組み、ライフワークである宗教対話、協力の研究、自己の能力強化のための様々な学習など、徹底という価値が通底しているのです。

Value of thoroughness rooted in all aspects of her life such as everyday living, activities at the world level, research on inter-religious dialogue and cooperation as a lifework, and various learnings for self-empowerment.

無理難題と思える目標に対しても徹底して努力をし続ければ、いつか実現できる、少なくとも限りなく近づくことはできるでしょう。

We can realize or at least come closer to the objectives which seem almost impossible and difficult as long as we continue our challenges.

ですから師にとっては、徹底して生きることは苦しみや面倒なことではなく、自己の能力を開花しながら人や社会、世界により大きな貢献をするとても幸せで自然な生き方なのではないか、としみじみと思ったのです。

Therefore, a through living is not a hardship nor a troublesome, but a genuinely happy and natural living by making a more significant contribution to humanity, societies and the world while pursuing self-empowerment, I believe.

この位でよい、とか十分である、と自分に語りかけ、徹底に至らない生き方をしている自分を見つめることができました。

I could look at myself who is not living a single-minded life by talking to myself that it’s good enough and no need to do more.

リーダーの一つの大切な資質は目標に向かって徹底して生き切る姿勢にあるのではないか、そのことを深く見つめた素晴らしい旅となりました。

One of the most critical qualities of a leader seems to be an attitude of living earnestly without compromise toward the goal. It has become a significant journey through which I could deeply think over it.

私も諦めることなくこの道を進んで行きたいと思います。

I want to go forward this path with the spirit of ”never giving up”.
