笑顔の専門家 / Specialist in smiling

世の中にはたくさんの専門家がいます。医療、教育、農業、工学、技術、化学、宇宙科学、哲学、宗教、政治、最近ではAI等です。彼らはそれぞれの専門分野で研究を進め、仕事をしています。

There are many specialists and experts in the world — specialists in medicine, education, agriculture, technology, chemistry, cosmic science, philosophy, religion, politics, recently AI, etc. They study, research and work in the respective field.

一方で、自分は専門家ではない、と思っている人々が世の中にはたくさんいます。私もその一人です。実際のことろ、何をもって専門家と定義するのか、一般の人と専門家の境目はどこにあるのか、と問われれば明確に一つの答えがあるわけではないでしょう。

On the other hand, there are so many people in the world who think they are not specialists.　I am one of them. If we ask what the definition of a specialist is, or where the border of specialist and generalist is, there may be no single clear answer.

一言でいえば、専門家とは特定のことに詳しい人、長けている人ということになるのでしょうか。あるいはもっぱらその領域で生き、仕事をし、研究をしている人のことを指すとも言えるでしょう。

In a word, the specialist may be a person who knows very details of or being accustomed to the particular thing or field. It can also be said that a specialist means a person who concentrates on living, working and researching for a specific thing or area.

それでは、仕事経験や知識、資格を持たない人は何の専門家にもなれないのでしょうか。

Then, will no one be able to become a specialist or an expert who doesn’t possess any working experience, knowledge or qualification?

私の信仰のお師匠様はとても謙虚な方で、誰もが認める素晴らしい方です。専門性があるなしに拘わらず「真心」とか「笑顔」、「一生けん命」に努めることが大切であると教えてくださいます。

My spiritual mentor is very humble and a wonderful person everyone respects.  However, my mentor always teaches us that we should make our best efforts to be smiling and doing everything mindfully.

私はハッとしました。笑顔の専門家、真心の専門家、一生懸命の専門家、そうか、笑顔で一番になればよい、真心で一番になればよい、一生懸命で一番になればよい、そう思ったのです。もちろん一番にはなれないかも知れないけれど、そう志を立てることが自分の人生を楽しくすることができるのではないかと思いました。難しい専門分野での専門家にはなれないけれど笑顔の専門家にはなれるかもしれない。もちろん、これまた難しいけれど。

I realized one thing. I came to think I can be a specialist in smiling, mindfulness, devotion. Yes, I should aim at NO 1 in smiling, mindfulness, and commitment, I thought. Of course, I may not be able to be NO 1, but I can make my life a joyful and happy by vowing in that way, I thought. I could be an expert in smiling, even if I could not be an expert in a professional field. Becoming a smiling expert is not easy too, though.

諦めずに、多くの人とつながっていくために笑顔の専門家を目指したいと思います。

I want to aim at becoming a specialist in smiling without giving up to be connected with as many people as possible.
